HOME REMEDIES FOR SENSITIVE SKIN

Sensitive skin is an all-encompassing term to indicate a heighten response to irritants. If you have sensitive skin, you may sunburn more easily, develop a rash or itching when exposed to everyday products that others use without problems, or break out in acne frequently.

Individuals with sensitive skin are vulnerable to allergic reactions and breakouts. It can be caused by both environmental and genetic factor. Other causes that can lead to this skin condition include exposure to excessive heat or cold, stress, and certain underlying skin conditions like eczema, rosacea, urticaria, and allergic contact dermatitis. If your skin has low tolerance for certain things like detergents, cosmetics, environmental changes like too much heat or too much cold, and sunlight, it means that you have sensitive skin.

Home remedies for sensitive skin include the mere basics--using products that reduce the risk of irritation, while relieving the discomfort of your sensitivities.

Fortunately, there are some home remedies for sensitive skin. People with sensitive type skin are recommended to use mild soaps and liquid cleansers that have low pH levels. Avoid using antibacterial soaps to wash your skin. Switch to a toner that does not contain any alcohol, petrochemicals, or fragrances. Also, use fragrance-free detergents to wash your clothes and linens. Choose hypoallergenic skincare products that do not include any fragrances, coloring agents, or alcohol. Remember that even essential oil fragrances and natural coloring agents can cause irritation for sensitive type skin. It is also better not to use hot water to shower or wash your face.

Before going out, wear a sun block that has a SPF of at least 15. Drink plenty of water everyday. Diet is also one among the important home remedies. Make sure to eat a balanced diet that includes fresh vegetables and fruits. Rosewater can be used to tone and cleanse normal and oily sensitive skins. Evening primrose oil is also good for sensitive skin. You can take it both externally and internally. Both almond oil and jojoba oil are effective cleansers for this type of skin. Mix grapefruit juice and oatmeal together to make a paste and use it as a scrub to exfoliate your skin.

If you have skin irritation from shaving, apply aloe vera gel to the affected area. It is also effective to cure skin rashes. Yogurt is one of the best home remedies for sensitive skin. Apply yogurt over your face, let it remain there for a few minutes, and then rinse it off. Mix one cup of yogurt with a half cup of oatmeal. Apply this mixture on your face for at least fifteen minutes and then wash it away. Honey can be used as a facial for sensitive skin. Warm some honey and rub it all over your face. Let the honey sit on your face for at least fifteen minutes. Wash your face with lukewarm water.

Mix two tablespoons of avocado oil, one tablespoon of rose clay, one drop of Roman chamomile essential oil, and one drop of rose essential oil. If necessary, add some water to make a paste. Spread this mixture on your face and wait until it becomes dry. Use warm water to rinse your face. This facial mask is recommended as one of the home remedies for sensitive skin. An oatmeal and egg yolk mask is also excellent for sensitive skin. Ground some uncooked oatmeal and mix it with the yolk of an egg. Apply this paste on your face, wait for fifteen minutes, and then wash it off with warm water.

Few Cares for Sensitive Skin

Step 1
Limit your bathing time to remedy sensitive skin. Hot water can dry out your skin, making it more itchy or irritated. Try to shower every other day if possible. The American Academy of Dermatology suggests washing your face only once daily if you've got sensitive skin prone to acne and irritation.

Step 2

Soothe itching, irritation and other sensitivities with cool compresses. Pressing a washcloth that's been soaked in cold milk can relieve some of the discomfort of your sensitive skin. Over-the-counter calamine lotions can also soothe sensitive skin, especially if you have eczema, a chronic skin condition characterized by dry, itchy, red, oozing skin.

Step 3
Protect your sensitive skin with moisturizing creams or lotions. Choose formulas that do not contain fragrance or artificial colors, which can be irritants. Apply your moisturizer after bathing to lock in moisture.

Step 4
Choose cosmetic products that are hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic to remedy sensitive skin outbreaks. These terms mean that the products--makeup, soaps, and lotions--are less likely to cause an allergic reaction and do not clog pores. Select unscented bath products as well, to help your sensitive skin stay clear of blemishes and rashes.

Step 5
Wash your clothing and linens in fragrance-free detergent, and set your washing machine for an extra rinse cycle to be sure all of the soap has been removed. Even the slightest residue can cause a reaction to someone with extremely sensitive skin.
